RP Miller Textiles

Rodman Primack’s collection is based on 18th and 19th Century Japanese woodblock prints; though these are not literal historical reproductions. In the fabrics, various themes and details have been abstracted to create something new that is meant to evoke, not literally replicate.

Rodman has always been inspired by Japan and spent much of his childhood in his grandparent’s exquisite modernist Japanese home in Laguna Beach which was filled with textiles, antiques, lacquer ware, ceramics and art from their travels there. The collection is very personal and in many ways pays homage to his grandmother and all the beauty and adventure she shared with him. His love for all things Japanese led him to live in Japan for a time as a teenager and his appreciation for the aesthetic that imbues all aspects of life there has never abated.

Rodman spent the majority of his professional life working in the Art World. Before starting his design firm, RP MILLER, in New York last year, Rodman was the Chairman of Phillips de Pury & Company, London, one of the world's principal auction houses. As a specialist in Contemporary Art he worked quite closely with collectors and helped them put together collections of both Contemporary Art and 20th/21st Century Design. Before Phillips he worked for Larry Gagosian, Christie's, and most significantly for his design career, Peter Marino.

With RP MILLER TEXTILES, Rodman hopes to bring together all that he has learned and seen through his years travelling around the world, experiencing some of the world's most beautiful homes, art collections and historical sites. But this small collection seems a good start as it is so personal.
